Taste & See Ministries began in 2003 as a way to raise funds for a local women's shelter in Spokane, WA. This was done by opening a tearoom where the public could come and enjoy an Afternoon Tea with friends and family, and hear about the lives that were being transformed at the shelter. The patrons of the tearoom were excited about donating to the ministry. In two years, the tearoom raised approximately $10,000 for the shelter. At the end of 2005, the location that was used for the tearoom became too small to accommodate the overwhelming success of the ministry. I sensed God moving me to close the current facility because He had a bigger plan for the ministry's future. In December 2005 I closed the doors and started on the journey of looking for a new location and expanding the purpose of the tearoom.
Working with women from shelters in Spokane was the desire of my heart. In my contact with these women, I became aware of the need for life skills that would help them secure employment after completing the life-changing program through the shelter in which they lived. These women had minimal job skills and needed a nurturing environment to assist in rebuilding their confidence so that they could begin to see their role in society as valuable. I began to see that Taste & See Ministries could offer these things, and more, if women from the local shelters were offered temporary employment and job training in a tearoom.
This is the focus of Taste & See Ministries. We have found a location, which is on 9th & Cedar, inside of Angelica's B&B. This location would allow me to employ and train many women, helping them to become contributing members to society. I am looking for financial backing for start up costs, and to some day, purchase the house. I am excited to open our new facility and look forward to giving women in transition a chance to shine.
